Bensisahar: Commercial production of bitter gourd oil has been started in Ghamrangbesi of Kwalasonthar village municipality-8 of Lamjung district. Himalayan Herbo Center Ghamrang Lamjung has started oil production.
Oil production has been started from bitter gourd by connecting machines on the banks of Midim river. Chairman of the Himalayan Herbo Center, Gum Prasad Gurung, said that one liter of oil would be produced from 600 kg of bitter leaves.
The company buys bitter gourd from locals at Rs 4 per kg. According to Gurung, Rs 2.6 million has been spent to connect the machine. A grant of Rs 1.4 million has been received from the Division Forest Office Lamjung and the remaining amount has been invested by the company’s management.
Leaf oil is sold in USA, Japan, Europe. The market price of oil is Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,000 per liter. The company aims to start production of rosemary, basil and genium along with bitter gourd. The company has set up a nursery to produce seedlings and distribute them to farmers who want to cultivate.
